A 16-year-old boy in Gwanda has been arrested for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl who had been left in his sister's custody on Tuesday afternoon.

It is alleged that the mother left the child with his sister while she went to run some errands.
The teen allegedly took advantage of the mother's absence and took the toddler to his bedroom and raped her.

His sister is said to have caught him in the act when she heard the child crying and went to investigate.
The girl was taken to Esigodini Hospital for medical examination and a police report was made leading to the teenager's arrest.
Provincial police spokesman for Matabeleland South, Inspector Tafanana Dzirutwe, confirmed the arrest and said investigations were in progress.
"The accused will soon appear in court facing a rape charge," he said. -
